About Achalgarh

Rana Kumbha of Mewar rebuilt an older Paramara fort here in 1452, and the walls and gates climb a rocky hill 11 km from Mount Abu on the Guru Shikhar road. The Achaleshwar Mahadev temple at the foot worships a toe-print of Shiva in a natural pit instead of a lingam and has a big brass Nandi, and Mandakini tank beside it has stone buffaloes and archers. The fort walk up to the Jain temples is a stiff half hour.
