About Mawphlang Sacred Forest

A sacred grove of the Khasi people, about 25 km from Shillong, protected by the community for hundreds of years. A local guide leads you along a trail through old trees, moss and monoliths, and explains the traditions. Nothing can be taken out of the forest, including leaves and stones, and visitors are asked to follow the guide closely. It is calm, damp and cool at any time of the year.
