About Elephant Falls
A three tier waterfall in a fern covered gorge, about 12 km from Shillong. The British named it after an elephant shaped rock at the base, which an earthquake broke up. Steps lead down past all three levels, and the rocks are slippery when it rains, so wear shoes with grip. It is best from June to October when the flow is full.
