About Jawai
Leopards live in caves in the granite domes around Bera and have shared the land with Rabari herders for generations without either side troubling the other, which makes this the most reliable place in India to see one. Safaris go out at dawn and dusk from the camps around Jawai Dam, itself a big reservoir with crocodiles and, in winter, flamingos and cranes. It is a conservation reserve rather than a sanctuary; go with a local tracker.
