About Jamia Masjid, Srinagar

The great mosque of old Srinagar, built in 1394 by Sultan Sikandar and rebuilt several times after fires. Its courtyard is ringed by arches, and 370 wooden pillars hold the prayer hall, a fine example of Indo-Saracenic and Kashmiri wood architecture. It is open to visitors outside prayer times, and the old city lanes around it are good for walking. Access may be limited on some Fridays.
