About Bettiah Raj Palace

The seat of the Bettiah Raj, once the second largest zamindari in Bihar, which passed to the Court of Wards after the last Maharaja died without an heir in 1893 and has been in legal limbo ever since. The palace is decaying and closed, but the gateway, durbar hall front and the surrounding Raj-era buildings are worth half an hour, and the town has one of the oldest Catholic missions in north India nearby.
