About Dauji Temple, Baldeo

The chief Balram temple of Braj, 20 km south-east of Mathura, with a large black image said to have been dug out of the Kshir Sagar tank beside it and installed by Gosain Gokulnath in the 1530s. It is known for the Huranga, held the day after Holi, when the women tear the clothes off the men of the temple families and beat them with the wet strips while buckets of coloured water go over everyone in the courtyard.
