About Urgelling Monastery
The small monastery where Tsangyang Gyatso, the sixth Dalai Lama, was born in 1683, 5 km below Tawang town. It was founded around 1489 and is quiet, with a handful of monks. In the courtyard is a tree said to have grown from his walking stick; the Monpa believe he will return when its three trunks reach the same height. Twenty minutes, and worth them.
