About Sela Pass and Sela Lake
The 4170 m pass between Dirang and Tawang, with a lake just below the top that freezes solid in winter. Since 2024 the Sela Tunnel bypasses the highest stretch, so the road stays open through the snow months, but the old road over the pass itself can still shut after a heavy fall. The altitude hits many people here; do not linger more than an hour if you have come up from Tezpur the same day.
What to see and do
- Sela Lake, frozen December to March
- The prayer-flag gate at the top
- The Sela Tunnel, opened 2024
- Snow walls along the road in winter
- Views down to the Nuranang valley
Part of The Himalaya.
