About Gorsam Chorten, Zemithang

A 93 ft stupa in the Boudhanath style, built around the 13th century by a Monpa lama at Zemithang on the Nyamjang Chu, 90 km north-west of Tawang near where Bhutan, Tibet and India meet. The Dalai Lama walked into India through this valley in 1959. The Gorsam Kora fair in late February or March draws Monpa from both sides of the Bhutan border. A long day trip from Tawang; there is almost nowhere to stay.
