About Tungabhadra Dam
Tungabhadra Dam at Hospet, completed in 1953, was one of the first big multipurpose projects of independent India and holds a reservoir that spreads over more than 350 sq km when full. The Japanese style garden below the dam, a small aquarium, a musical fountain in the evening and the views from the dam top are the main attractions, and a shuttle bus takes visitors up to the crest. The dam is 6 km from Hospet town and about 20 km from Hampi, so it fits at the end of a Hampi day.
