About Surwal Lake
A shallow seasonal lake about 25 kilometres from Sawai Madhopur that fills in the monsoon and holds a good spread of winter birds until it dries in spring: bar-headed geese, painted storks, spoonbills, pelicans and often flamingos. Naturalists from the Ranthambore lodges bring guests here at dawn. Nothing but a track and a few farms around it.
What to see and do
- Bar-headed geese and painted storks
- Occasional flamingos and pelicans
- Dawn light off the water
- A quiet counterpoint to the safari zones
