About Someshwarnath Temple, Areraj

The busiest Shiva temple in Champaran, at Areraj, thirty kilometres from Motihari, with a Shravan fair that draws kanwar pilgrims carrying Gandak water from as far as Nepal. The shivling is old and the current temple is not. Outside Shravan and Shivratri it is a quiet town shrine, and the Ashokan pillar of Lauriya Areraj is ten minutes away.
