About George Orwell's Birthplace
Eric Arthur Blair, who became George Orwell, was born on 25 June 1903 in this bungalow, where his father worked for the opium department of the Indian Civil Service. The family left for England within a year. The house was semi-derelict for decades, then restored, and now has a bust and a small display; it is the reason foreign visitors turn up in Motihari at all. Ten minutes is enough, but it is a good ten minutes.
