About Lauriya Areraj Ashokan Pillar

A plain, polished Ashokan pillar a little over 36 feet high, standing in a fenced field with six of the emperor’s edicts cut into the shaft; the capital is missing and always has been as far as records go. It is less photogenic than the lion at Nandangarh but the inscription is clearer, and it is deserted. Combine with the Someshwarnath temple in Areraj.
