About Shivanasamudra Falls
Here the Kaveri splits around an island and drops about 90 metres in two branches, Gaganachukki on the Mandya side and Bharachukki across the river. The Gaganachukki viewpoint near the old Bluff township looks straight at the twin segmented falls, which are at their fullest from July to September. Asia's first hydroelectric station was built here in 1902 to power the Kolar gold fields. Swimming below the falls is banned after many drownings.
