About Salkhan Fossil Park

Stromatolite fossils around 1.4 billion years old lie exposed across 25 hectares of scrub on the Kaimur plateau, 12 km from Robertsganj. They are the fossilised mats of early algae and this is one of the largest such sites in the world, older and bigger than the one at Yellowstone. There is a gate and a couple of boards and not much else. Go with someone who can read the rings.
