About Vishwa Shanti Stupa, Rajgir

A white marble peace pagoda on Ratnagiri hill, built in 1969 by the Japanese Nipponzan Myohoji order, with four golden Buddhas set in its sides. The old single-seat chairlift from 1969 still runs alongside a new eight-seat cabin ropeway opened in 2021, and either is half the fun. From the top you look across the ring of five hills that enclosed the ancient capital of Rajgriha. Griddhakuta is a short walk down the ridge.
