About Kundalpur
Two kilometres from the Nalanda ruins, and held by Digambar Jains to be Kundagrama, the birthplace of Mahavira in 599 BCE. Svetambara tradition places it at Vaishali instead, and the dispute is old. The Nandyavarta Mahal, a large modern temple built on the plan of a Jain auspicious symbol, is the main structure, with older shrines and a dharamshala. Mahavir Jayanti in March or April is the big day. Easy to add to Nalanda.
