About Pawapuri Jal Mandir

Mahavira, the 24th Jain Tirthankara, died and was cremated here in 527 BCE, and the rush to take soil from the pyre is said to have dug the pond the temple now stands in. The white marble Jal Mandir sits in the middle of a lotus tank reached by a long stone causeway. Jains mark Diwali as his nirvana day, so late October and early November is the busiest and best time. The Samosharan temple in the village is part of the same visit.
