About Ngengpui Wildlife Sanctuary
About 110 square kilometres of lowland forest along the Ngengpui river in the south-west of Lawngtlai district, one of the few places in Mizoram with wild elephants. There is no tourist infrastructure at all, and the reason to list it is so you know it exists: a forest permit from Lawngtlai and a guide from a border village get you a hard day of walking and, with luck, elephant sign.
What to see and do
- Wild elephant, rare in Mizoram
- Hoolock gibbon and hornbills
- Lowland evergreen forest
- Nothing built for visitors
Part of Patkai, Naga and Mizo Hills.
