About Kamalanagar (Chawngte)

The Chakma council town on the Tuichawng river in the low western corner of the state, called Chawngte by the Mizos and Kamalanagar by the Chakma who live here. The Chakma are Buddhist, so this is the one part of Mizoram with viharas rather than churches, and Bizu in mid April is the festival to catch. It is hot, low and different in feel from the ridge towns, and the Bangladesh border is close.
