About Mullayanagiri
Mullayanagiri at 1930 metres is the highest peak in Karnataka, part of the Baba Budan Giri range about 20 km from Chikkamagaluru town. A narrow tar road climbs to a car park below the summit, from where roughly 450 steps lead to a small Shiva temple on top; trekkers instead take the Sarpadhari trail from the road below, a 3 km climb through grassland. The summit is often in cloud from June to September and clear and cold from November to February, which is the best time for the sunrise. Wind is strong on top and there is no shelter or water, so carry both.
