About Baba Budangiri
Baba Budangiri is a range and a cave shrine about 30 km from Chikkamagaluru, revered by both Hindus and Muslims as the Dattatreya Peetha and the dargah of the Sufi saint Baba Budan. The saint is credited with bringing the first coffee seeds to India from Yemen in the 17th century and planting them on these slopes. The shrine is in a laterite cave near the road head; Manikyadhara falls with its bathing ghat and the Galikere crater lake are short drives away and the ridge road continues to Mullayanagiri. The Kurinji flowers on the hills bloom in a mass once every 12 years, last seen in 2018.
