About Manjarabad Fort
Manjarabad is an eight pointed star shaped fort built by Tipu Sultan in 1792 on a hill beside the Bengaluru to Mangaluru highway, 6 km from Sakleshpur. A flight of about 250 steps from the road leads to the gate; inside are the ramparts, a cross shaped well, powder magazines and arched rooms under the bastions. The star plan is best seen from the air, but the walk along the walls gives wide views of the ghats, which are wrapped in mist through the monsoon. It is a short stop on the way to Coorg or the coast rather than a whole day trip.
