About Madhugiri Fort

A fort built over a single granite hill said to be the second largest monolith in Asia, rising above Madhugiri town 100 km north of Bengaluru. The trail climbs steps cut into the rock, with iron railings on the steepest sections, through several fortified gateways to a ruined Gopalakrishna temple on the top. The exposed rock gets very hot and slippery, so climb early and only in dry weather. Allow four to five hours for the round trip.
