About Jitwarpur and Ranti

The two villages on the edge of Madhubani town where the painting that carries the district name moved from mud walls onto paper in the 1960s. Jitwarpur produced Sita Devi and Baua Devi, Ranti produced Ganga Devi and Mahasundari Devi, and dozens of families still paint. Knock on doors, or ask at the town for a working artist. Prices are far lower than in Delhi galleries.
