About Balirajgarh
A roughly square mud rampart about a kilometre on each side, enclosing a mound that the Archaeological Survey has dug in stages since the 1960s and found occupied from the early historic centuries BCE through the Gupta period. Locals attach it to the demon king Bali. There is nothing built to look at, only the ramparts and the fields inside, so go for the walk and the sense of an old town.
What to see and do
- The kilometre-square mud rampart
- ASI excavation trenches
- Early historic to Gupta occupation
- Fields inside the walls
