About Machkund
A large natural tank in a hollow of the sandstone hills outside Dholpur, ringed by something over a hundred temples and ghats built by rulers and merchants over several centuries. The name comes from the Muchukunda legend; the tank is counted a tirtha and the Dev Chhath fair in Bhadrapad, around late August or September, fills it with bathers. Quiet the rest of the year.
What to see and do
- The temple ring around the tank
- Dev Chhath fair in Bhadrapad
- Sandstone ghats and pavilions
- Dholpur red stone everywhere
