About Chambal gharial safari, Dholpur
The Chambal below Dholpur is part of the National Chambal Sanctuary and one of the last good gharial rivers in the world. Forest department boats go out from near the Rajghat bridge, and in winter you see gharial and mugger hauled out on the sandbanks, Indian skimmers, and with luck a Gangetic dolphin. Boats do not run in the monsoon flood.
What to see and do
- Gharial and mugger on the sandbanks
- Indian skimmers and black-bellied terns
- Gangetic dolphins, if lucky
- The Chambal ravines from the water
- Shergarh fort downstream
