It is a Ramsar wetland and a wildlife sanctuary, and from November to February it fills with grey pelicans, painted storks, ibis, ducks and waders that fly in from as far as Siberia. Fishing villages sit on islands inside the lake and small boats can be hired from Kolletikota or Kaikaluru. Eluru is 20 km away.
