About Kodachadri
Kodachadri at 1343 metres stands in the Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary above the Kollur temple, and is one of the most popular treks in the Malnad. The classic route climbs from Nittur or Kattinahole past Hidlumane falls, about 12 km with steep muddy sections, while shared jeeps take a very rough track to the forest rest house near the top. From the Mookambika shrine at the summit a further walk leads to the Sarvajna Peetha, a small stone pavilion where Adi Shankara is said to have meditated, facing the sunset over the coast. Camping is not allowed and the jeep track often closes in heavy rain.
