About Agumbe
Agumbe is a small village at the top of the ghat road from Udupi, in one of the wettest places in India with over 7000 mm of rain a year. It is known for the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station set up to study the king cobra, for the sunset point on the ghat edge that looks out to the Arabian Sea on a clear evening, and as the village where the Malgudi Days television series was filmed at Doddamane. Barkana falls, Onake Abbi falls and Jogigundi are short forest treks nearby, some needing a local guide. Leeches are heavy in the monsoon, so the dry months are easier for walking.
