About Jog Falls
Jog Falls is where the Sharavathi river drops 253 metres in four streams named Raja, Rani, Rover and Rocket, making it one of the highest plunge waterfalls in India. The flow depends on releases from the Linganamakki dam upstream, so the full spectacle is in August, September and October; in summer it thins to a trickle. The main viewpoint is on the Shivamogga side with a paved gallery, and about 1400 steps go down to the base pool for a much closer view but a tiring climb back. Sagara is the nearest town, 30 km away, with Sirsi and Honnavar on the other side of the gorge.
