About Khardung La

One of the highest motorable passes in the world, at about 5,359 metres, on the road between Leh and the Nubra valley. A short stop at the top is enough, as the thin air can bring on headaches. The view of the Karakoram range from the pass is superb. Permits are needed for Nubra beyond the pass, and the road is kept open most of the year but can be snow blocked in winter.
