About Keoladeo National Park
The old duck-shooting preserve of the Bharatpur maharajas, now the best wetland birding in northern India and a World Heritage site. Painted storks nest in thousands from August, and the winter migrants arrive from October. Hire a cycle rickshaw with one of the trained rickshaw guides at the gate; they know the birds better than most books, and the park is flat and quiet on the tarred central road.
What to see and do
- Painted stork colonies from late monsoon
- Winter ducks, geese and cranes
- Rickshaw guides at the gate
- Keoladeo temple in the middle of the park
- Python point and the nilgai herds
