About Chilika Lake, Satapada
Chilika is the largest brackish water lagoon in India, and Satapada, about 50 km from Puri, is the jetty from which boats go out to the sea mouth to look for Irrawaddy dolphins. Winter brings flamingos, pelicans and lakhs of migratory ducks, best seen around Nalabana. Boats are hired by the hour at fixed rates. The monsoon months are rough and the water is muddy, so plan for November to February.
