About Bara Kaman
Bara Kaman is the unfinished mausoleum of Ali Adil Shah II, begun in 1672 and abandoned after his death. Only the massive stone arches, twelve in each direction, were completed, and they now frame the sky over a raised platform holding the graves of the sultan and his family. The site is in the heart of Vijayapura town, walking distance from the bus stand, and looks best in evening light. Upli Buruj tower and the huge Malik-e-Maidan cannon are a short auto ride away.
