About Almatti Dam

Almatti is the main dam of the Upper Krishna Project, holding back the Lal Bahadur Shastri reservoir on the Krishna river about 70 km south of Vijayapura. Most visitors come for the gardens laid out below the dam: a rock garden with life-size sculptures of village life, a Mughal-style garden, and an evening musical fountain. The gates open in August and September when the reservoir is full, and the spray and noise then are the main draw. It is an easy stop between Vijayapura and Badami.
