About Aihole
Aihole has over a hundred temples spread through a working village on the Malaprabha, most of them built between the 5th and 8th centuries when the Chalukyas were experimenting with temple form. The apsidal Durga temple, the flat-roofed Lad Khan temple and the rock-cut Ravana Phadi cave are the ones everyone sees, but small groups are scattered in fields and lanes all over. Aihole is 35 km from Badami and 14 km from Pattadakal; allow a half day and hire a local guide at the Durga temple gate.
