About Victoria Memorial
A large white marble memorial to Queen Victoria, finished in 1921, in a park on the Maidan. The domed building mixes British and Mughal styles and now holds a museum of paintings, old maps and objects from the time of the British capital in Calcutta. The garden is a favourite walking place, and the building looks best in the late afternoon light. The museum is closed one day a week, usually on Monday, so check before you go.
