About Howrah Bridge (Rabindra Setu)
The cantilever bridge over the Hooghly river, opened in 1943, built without nuts and bolts and carrying lakhs of people and vehicles every day. It is the best known symbol of Kolkata. Walk on the footpath at sunrise or sunset, and visit the huge Mullick Ghat flower market on the Kolkata side, which wakes early. Keep your belongings close in the crowd, and do not take pictures of the bridge area from vehicles when police restrict it.
