About Vani Vilasa Sagara
One of the oldest dams in Karnataka, built across the Vedavathi river between 1897 and 1907 by the Mysuru Wadiyars, before the KRS. The stone dam sits between two hills at Marikanive, and the reservoir behind it filled fully in 2022 for the first time in decades. There is a small garden and viewpoint on the dam, and a temple to Sri Kanive Marikamba on the hill. It is about 18 km from Hiriyur on the Bengaluru highway.
