About Chandravalli Caves

A valley behind Chitradurga Fort with a lake and an archaeological site where excavations found Satavahana coins, Roman coins and pottery from the early centuries CE. The Ankali Mutt caves are a set of rock chambers cut about 80 feet below ground, once used by monks, and a local guide leads visitors through them by lamp light. A Bhairaveshwara temple stands by the lake. It is 3 km from Chitradurga town and is easily combined with the fort.
