About Ugratara Sthan, Mahishi
A Shakti shrine to Tara in her fierce form, about 17 km west of Saharsa near the Kosi. Mahishi is also the village of Mandan Mishra, the Mimamsa scholar whom Adi Shankaracharya is said to have debated here with Mishra's wife Ubhaya Bharati as judge. Navratri draws the big crowds; the rest of the year it is a quiet village temple.
