About Shree Govindajee Temple

A Vaishnava temple next to the old royal palace, in the heart of Imphal, built in the eighteenth century in the Bengali style, with a golden dome, a large prayer hall and a courtyard. It is the main place to see the Manipuri Raas Lila, especially in the autumn months around Kartika Purnima, and the evening aarti draws the local crowd. Take off shoes, cover your head if asked, and respect the quiet.
