About Shahi Litchi Orchards, Mushahari
Muzaffarpur grows most of India’s litchi, and the Shahi variety from these orchards got a GI tag in 2018. The harvest runs roughly from the middle of May into June, the one time of year when the heat is worth putting up with; lanes through Mushahari and the villages around are solid with fruit and the pickers work from dawn. The National Research Centre on Litchi is here too. Outside those five weeks there is nothing to see but trees.
