About Punaura Dham
Five kilometres west of Sitamarhi, Punaura is the other claimant to being the exact place of Sita’s birth, with a Janaki Kund tank and a Ram Janaki temple in a walled compound. The Bihar government has been rebuilding it on a large scale since 2023, so expect construction. Most pilgrims visit both this and the town temple in one morning.
