About Janaki Mandir, Sitamarhi

Sitamarhi takes its name from the tradition that Sita was born here, rising from the furrow when King Janak ploughed the field, and this temple in the town marks the spot with the Urvija Kund beside it. The building is about a century old and plain; the pull is the story and the crowds at Ram Navami and Vivah Panchami, when the wedding of Ram and Sita is celebrated across Mithila and Janakpur.
