About Prakasam Barrage
The Prakasam barrage crosses the Krishna river at Vijayawada and carries the road to Guntur. It was completed in 1957 on the site of an 1855 anicut and feeds the canals of the Krishna delta. The barrage is over a kilometre long and is lit up at night. In the monsoon, when the gates are lifted, people come to watch the flood water pass through. The Kanaka Durga temple and Bhavani Island are within a couple of kilometres.
